The Range Safety (and Firing) Officer (RSO) course is designed to develop competent personnel capable of safely planning, controlling and supervising firing activities within an Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives (OME) environment. Aligned to Defence Safety Authority (DSA) 03.OME Part 2, the course develops the knowledge and skills required to apply explosive safety principles and authorised range safety procedures during the conduct of firing activities.
Through a combination of theory and practical application, learners develop an understanding of explosives theory, explosive effects, ammunition classification and recognition, initiation systems, misfire management, and the safe storage and transportation of explosives. Participants will also explore range orders, safety traces, danger areas, facility inspection procedures, and the responsibilities associated with the Range Safety Officer and Firing Officer roles.
