Overview
An aviation operations specialist could work in a number of aviation environments, such as a commercial airport, military base / aerodrome, heliport or other airfield. Specialist roles, all focussed around the arrival, turnaround and departure of aircraft and maintaining an aviation operation, will include knowledge, skills and behaviours to complete complex aviation tasks and may include supervision of others to enable compliance with regulations through a safe, secure and effective aviation operation. These functions may include loading and unloading of aircraft, air traffic control (ATC), movement of aircraft and vehicles airside and the management of passengers both airside and landside. The functions all work as part of a combined team, within which communication with wider colleagues and other stakeholders is essential and the aviation operations specialist plays a key part of a coherent operation.

Overview
An aviation operations manager has accountability for compliance, safety, and security within their area, must effectively plan and manage the use of resources and ensure compliance with processes and procedures. They may manage an aviation operation in a variety of contexts, such as a commercial airport, military base/aerodrome, heliport, or another airfield. Specialist roles, all focussed around the management of aircraft arrival, turnaround, and departure, as well as the environment and facilities, require knowledge, skills, and behaviours to complete complex aviation tasks and management of others to enable compliance with regulations through a safe, secure, and effective aviation operation. Effective communication and decision-making across all levels of the organisation and with stakeholders across the aviation operation are essential. Aviation operations management comprises six distinct managerial areas within an aviation environment.

Level 2 Express Delivery Operative
Overview
Express delivery drivers use equipment and software to provide timed deliveries and collections to homes and businesses. This standard is ideal for postal workers, couriers, and express delivery drivers who have a high level of individual responsibility for their working day and delivery route. They may be on foot using trolleys or required to use a vehicle such as a pedal cycle, motorbike, van, or lorry. They are an ambassador for the industry, their brand, and the goods they carry. They provide a high level of customer service which may include real-time tracking of deliveries or the installation of electrical and other goods. They maintain excellent communication throughout the delivery chain from collection to delivery point and deal correctly with failed deliveries and returns.

The Express Delivery Operative Standard does not include the acquisition of a Driving Licence for any class of vehicle. Where it is appropriate to the job role, employers are able to provide licence acquisition training and testing alongside the apprenticeship but this does not form part of the assessment requirements set out in this plan and as stated in the Standard, driving licence acquisition is not co-funded by the government as part of the apprenticeship.

Level 2 Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) Driver
Overview
This occupation is found in National and international transport and logistics organisations in a very wide range of sectors. Employers range from large organisations with their own in-house operations through to specialist contractors through to small businesses. The broad purpose of the occupation is to drive large goods vehicles, which are vehicles with a Gross Combined Weight of over 7500kg and include Articulated and Draw Bar vehicles, in a safe and fuel-efficient manner, ensuring that the right products are delivered at the right time, location, condition, and temperature (if required), with the correct documentation and within the shortest lead times. LGV drivers deliver to a range of settings, such as warehouses, shops, and private homes. Their customer base ranges from large global organisations to sole traders, private customers, and the military. They may work within one or more sub-sectors, including shipping, removals, import/export, freight, hazardous goods, and food. They may be required to work shifts, unsociable hours, and will usually work alone.

Level 2 Port Operative
Overview
Port Operatives have key roles in enabling businesses to deliver on time and safely. Cargo can include any goods imported to, or exported from the UK, such as cars, food, manufactured goods, and raw materials, and the work they do depends on the type of ship or cargo. Operatives in larger ports tend to specialise, but smaller ports often require them to perform a wide range of duties. A Port Operative may be required to work on board any type and size of moored or anchored vessel in a port.
Port Operatives typically work in teams under the direction of a supervisor and are an essential part of the core function of a port and maintaining a safe environment. Working hours may include unsocial hours and working outdoors in inclement weather is probable. There may be some on-call requirement and shift and weekend work is likely.

Overview
Warehouse Operatives work in a variety of warehouse environments. Work activities include taking deliveries, checking for damaged/missing items, storing goods, moving stock by various methods, picking/packing orders, loading goods for dispatch, maintaining stock records and documentation, and cleaning. They are required to safely use a range of equipment, machinery, and vehicles, as relevant to their role and setting. This could include mechanical racking systems, materials handling equipment (MHE) or forklift trucks.

Individuals in this role are highly competent in using industry-recognised systems and associated services (eg Traffic/Warehouse Management Systems) and will be able to work under pressure to tight deadlines.
