APM Project Fundamentals Qualification

Summary

The APM Project Management Qualification (IPMA Level D, SCQF Level 7) is aimed at those wishing to achieve a broad level of project management knowledge sufficient to participate in projects from individual assignments through to large capital projects. Applicants typically have some pre-existing Project Management knowledge, although this is not essential.


Why it’s important

In today’s competitive Commercial and Project Management environment it is essential for those existing and aspiring Project Managers to demonstrate to employers, clients and suppliers that they are a skilled and committed project professional. APM qualifications are recognised globally as highly credible for Project Management Professionals and those who achieve the APM or Practitioner Qualification are entitled to register their details on the International Project Management Association (IPMA) website at Level C or D (according to the qualification held).


What it covers

The APM syllabus assesses breadth of knowledge in all areas of Project Management and covers knowledge areas from the APM Body of Knowledge including:

  • Budgeting and cost management
  • Communication
  • Conflict management
  • Earned value management
  • Leadership and teamwork
  • Procurement
  • Sponsorship
  • Negotiation
  • Management of Risk
  • Project lifecycle
  • Who will benefit

Individuals who undertake this will be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of how these elements interact and how their project fits into their strategic and commercial environment. APM is a qualification recognised both nationally and internationally ensuring candidates achieve a qualification that can be carried from one job to another or from one industry to another.

Exam Format

There are two examination routes for the APM qualification:
  • A three hour paper where candidates must answer ten from sixteen questions
  • For current PRINCE2® Registered Practitioners a two hour paper that recognises prior learning. In this paper candidates must answer six from ten questions
